Leelanau Outdoor Center Hosts First Annual Educators’ Conference

Despite the wet weather last week, educators and community members from Leelanau, Grand Traverse, and Antrim Counties attended the first annual Branch Out! Conference, sponsored by the Great Lakes Fishery Trust. The conference was designed to provide attendees with an awareness of the significant impact of getting students outside of classroom walls. Presenters included representatives from the National Wildlife Federation, the National Park Service, and the Leelanau Outdoor Center. Attendees at Branch Out! said they loved hearing what educators are doing to connect kids with nature and that it was “a great inspiration to get the kids outside more.” Plan to attend next year’s conference!

Leelanau Outdoor Center was proud to announce their first annual teacher conference.  The conference focused on bringing the outdoors into the classroom and the classroom outdoors.

Featured speakers included Julia Liljengren from the National Wildlife Federation, Lisa Myers from Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, and our own LOC staff members.

All proceeds, after expenses, went towards LOC tuition assistance.
